Anthony Veder has announced the successful installation of two VentoFoils sails, delivered by Econowind, on the ethylene carrier Coral Patula (flying the Dutch flag). This installation marks a pioneering step, as Anthony Veder becomes the first company globally to equip a gas carrier with wind-assisted propulsion technology.
Later this year, a similar retrofit will be carried out on the sister ship, Coral Pearl. By upgrading its existing gas carriers, Anthony Veder is exploring wind propulsion as a viable, sustainable solution for reducing emissions in the maritime sector.
By retrofitting two ethylene carriers in its fleet with Econowind VentoFoils, Anthony Veder aims to harness wind energy to substantially reduce fuel consumption. The VentoFoil system is designed to work alongside traditional engines, providing an additional boost in propulsion through wind power. Based on IMO wind conditions, the system is expected to achieve fuel savings of approximately 5%, with the potential for over 10% in optimal conditions. This initiative not only contributes to lower fuel costs but, more importantly, plays a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with Anthony Veder's commitment to sustainable shipping.
