Last week, the Thun Renew (flying the Dutch flag) was successfully launched and christened, marking the latest addition to the R-class series of Thun Tankers. The vessel represents another step in the ongoing commitment to building sustainable, efficient, and crew-friendly ships designed for the future.
The christening ceremony was performed by Ms. Marga de Mol, partner of Captain Frank van der Elsen, who recently retired after many dedicated years at sea with MF Shipping Group. Ms. De Mol is well known within the maritime sector for her work as a coach and external confidential counsellor, promoting values such as care, trust, and safety—principles that closely align with those upheld by the Thun and MF Shipping Group community.
Thun Renew has been developed in close collaboration between Thun Tankers, MF Shipping Group, and Shipyard Ferus Smit, continuing a long-standing partnership dedicated to quality and innovation. As part of the R-class series, the vessel combines environmental performance, energy efficiency, and safe working conditions on board, reflecting the industry’s drive toward more sustainable shipping.
The name Thun Renew embodies the values of renewal, responsibility, and reliability at sea. A fitting representation of Thun Tankers’ vision for the future of maritime transport.
