Vertom Willemijn launched

24 December 2024

Early December Vertom Willemijn (flying the Dutch flag) was successfully christened and launched at the Thecla Bodewes Shipyard in Kampen. The vessel is a 7,280 dwt vessel featuring advanced diesel-electric propulsion. She is the seventh vessel in the LABRAX series, a fleet of twelve vessels designed to set new benchmarks for sustainability and efficiency in maritime shipping.

The LABRAX series is distinguished by its innovative design and sustainable features. Its CFD-optimized hull minimizes resistance while maximizing efficiency, ensuring excellent (or outstanding) performance. The diesel-electric propulsion system reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, fully complying with the latest International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations.

With a future-ready design, these vessels are prepared to integrate alternative fuels and advanced power sources, supporting the industry’s transition to zero-emission shipping. Additionally, sustainable technologies, including an efficient fixed-pitch propeller shaft line system and various energy-saving measures, significantly reduce NOx emissions, setting new standards for environmentally responsible maritime transport.

With a length of 118.60 meters, a beam of 14.30 meters, and a 2 fully box-shaped cargo holds offering 329,700 cuft capacity, the LABRAX series delivers highly competitive transport solutions. Its innovative propulsion system requires significantly less installed power compared to conventional vessels of similar size, resulting in remarkable fuel efficiency and reduced operational costs.
