The Dutch delegation to the Council-meeting of IMO paid a visit to the Secretary-General of IMO to deposit an instrument of acceptance of the 2021 amendments to the IMO Convention.

These amendments expand the number of Council members by twelve in order to reach a better balance through wider representation of IMO contracting States, including Small Island Development States. These also extend the Council’s terms of office from two to four years.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands is the seventh country to have accepted the amendments. The amendments will come into force one year after they are accepted by two-thirds of the Member States. With 175 Member States, this still means more to go.
